Jim and Melva realized their life-long dream of owning a small business in the Eastern Sierra. After leaving a promising career in Long Beach and hugging family farewell, the Coats family purchased Fern Creek Lodge in 1977. Jim, Melva, and Jon quickly settled into the community and made the Lodge their home.
Jim enjoyed fishing, piloting and adventures in the back-country. Melva embraced Eastern Sierra history and riding horses with her best friends. Growing up, Jon loved access to June Mountain and wide open freedom of the area. Together, they created a welcoming and memorable experience for their customers.
Looking forward to retirement, they sold Fern Creek in 1990 and embarked on their RV adventures across the country. They eventually settled on their dream ranch in Bishop and created wonderful, lasting memories with Jon and Shanna.
Jim and Melva's legacy continues through fond memories of them and the lasting impacts they had on family and friends.
In 2012, the business came back to the Coats family and Jon stepped in as Manager. Jon continues to provide our customers with a memorable vacation experience.
